It has been years since I’ve stayed in a motel. I’ll admit to purposefully avoiding them as they have a reputation of being fairly low down on the accommodation spectrum, placed somewhere just above a grungy backpackers. While accommodation in Warrnambool is plentiful, 4 star hotels are distinctly light on and overpriced, so we were forced to rethink our choices. We booked the Mid City Motel Warrnambool with trepidation but I’m thrilled to say they exceeded all our expectations. Read on for all the details …
Road Trippin’ Australia’s Iconic Great Ocean Road
Aussie’s love a road trip. The land down under is huge and traversed by millions of kilometres of bitumen so there is no shortage of options for road trips around Eastern Australia, but the Great Ocean Road in Victoria is arguably the most famous. The appeal is such that people from all walks of life are jostling for space on the Great Ocean Road. Visitors range from cash strapped backpackers in Wicked campers to retired couples in matching rain jackets and everyone in between. A drive down the Great Ocean Road is a ‘must do’ for visitors to this spectacular part of the world. Read on for all the details …
Mercadante Wood Fired Pizzeria Melbourne Review
Lygon St in Carlton is a Melbourne institution. Locals and visitors alike flock to the famous strip to shop, socialise and more importantly, eat and drink their fill. In all my 100+ visits to Melbourne, I have only dined in Lygon St once before and it wasn’t the best to be honest. It was about 5 years ago and The Co-Conspirator and I just kinda wandered aimlessly around looking at gazillions of menus and settled on one when we got too hungry to keep looking. This time around I knew I could do better. I have a few friends down south and I am not adverse to soliciting recommendations but in true form we bypassed all those (sorry guys!) and settled on Mercadante Wood Fired Pizzeria after being wowed by the extensive menu which featured all our favourites. Vibe Savoy Melbourne Hotel Review
At the end of September we found ourselves in Melbourne in the midst of a city consumed with AFL grand final fever. It wasn’t on purpose. I booked the flights well in advance and failed to check the football calendar. D’Oh! To add insult to injury I missed watching my beloved Sharks win their first ever NRL grand final back home in Sydney. While I was devastated to miss it, we tried to make the most of our short stay in Melbourne. The downside for us was that we had to compete for accommodation with the thousands of sports fans who descended on the city for the big game. Not surprisingly, many hotels opportunistically increased their prices significantly to match the sky-high demand but I’m thrilled to say that The Vibe Savoy Melbourne was not one of them. In fact, the Vibe did pretty much everything right by us and I struggled to fault them. My Vibe Savoy Melbourne hotel review will help you determine if this is the place for you when you are next in town. Read on for all the details …
Airport Rentals: Bargain Car Hire Around The Globe
*** Updated February 2020 ***
I love a bargain. Who doesn’t right? While I’ll quite happily drop a grand on a pair of shoes (red soles are my weakness what can I say), when it comes to car hire I am a lot less generous. I’m not a car person. Of course I can appreciate the luxury of a sparkly new beamer as much as the next guy, but I just don’t see the point in paying for unnecessary luxury when the banger will still get you from A to B just fine. So it goes without saying that when it comes to hiring a car I am looking to pay the lowest amount possible and Airport Rentals have helped me to do just that on more than one occasion. Are you down with paying minimal car hire fees? Read on for all the details …
Restaurant Review: Noi Thai Cuisine Waikiki Hawaii
I love Thai Food. I’d have a really tough time naming my very favourite cuisine but Thai is definitely in my top 5. In most cities there are dozens of great Thai joints serving up Pad Thai quicker than you can blink, but not so in Waikiki. We had to hunt long and hard to find Noi Thai Cuisine when I was hankering for a curry while visiting the Aloha state. So how does it compare to the brilliant Thai I have eaten all around the globe? Restaurant Review: Yard House Waikiki Hawaii
Yard House Waikiki is very popular with both locals and visitors alike. We had walked past many times before we chose to dine, largely because we were a bit put off by the queues, however we lucked out when we popped in for a late lunch and were able to score a table without delay. If you are looking for casual dining with an extensive menu in Waikiki Beachwalk, the Yard House could be for you. Read on for all the details …
Waikele Premium Outlets Hawaii: How To Grab A Bargain in Oahu
*** Waikele Premium Outlets Updated February 2020 ***
Finding a bargain in Hawaii is not as easy as it used to be. The decreased buying power of the AUD is largely to blame, but that doesn’t mean all is lost. If you are savvy you can still fill your suitcase for a fraction of the cost that you could at home. One of my favourite places to bag a bargain is Waikele Premium Outlets. Filled with brand name stores, it’s worth leaving Waikiki for a few hours of retail therapy. Read on for all the details …
