A Lifetime Obsession With Greek Food
I love Greek food. It was inevitable really. During my formative years I lived in an inner city Sydney suburb with a large Greek population. I have vivid childhood memories of lazy afternoons spent at friends’ houses melting under the blistering Australian sun while sampling tasty morsels lovingly made by black-clad yiayias and served on platters which heaved under the weight of then foreign delicacies like Dolmades, Spanakopita and of course Souvlaki. Coming from English parents whose culinary skills were limited to meat and three very overcooked veg, food in my house was consumed for sustenance not pleasure. Eating at my friends houses’ was an awakening. My fan-girl devotion was cemented by four trips to Greece where I spent balmy evenings in rustic tavernas gorging on the local specialties late into the night. On my return, many an hour was spent in my kitchen perfecting my Portokalopita, Saganaki and Keftedes until I nailed them. My predilection to Hellenic cuisine has fostered an innate ability to instinctively seek out Greek restaurants in all corners of the globe. I’ve previously shared the Greek feasts I devoured at Mix Restaurant in Hoi An Vitenam and Al Camino in Whitinaga New Zealand and now it’s Bali’s turn. Hold onto your hats folks cos this one might just be the best yet.
Nostimo Greek Grill Bali Overview
I love love love Nostimo Greek Grill Bali. I have been to Bali 10+ times and as soon as I book my tickets I find myself looking forward to dining at my favourite Bali Greek restaurant again. Nostimo Bali has two locations and while I have seen the Ubud restaurant whizz past a taxi window, I have only dined at Seminyak. Nostimo Bali in Seminyak is located on Jl Raya Petitenget about a 10 min scooter ride from the heart of Seminyak. If you haven’t rented a scooter in Bali it will only be a couple of bucks in a metered taxi (always use Bluebird!). The decor is typical rustic Greek with whitewashed tables and lots of blue. If you dine after dark, the overhead fairy lights add a lovely touch. The service at Nostimo Greek restaurant Bali was exceptional every time we dined. After our first visit, the staff recognised us and greeted us even more fondly which was sweet.

What We Ate At My Favourite Greek Restaurant Seminyak
The menu at Nostimo Bali is tight and includes a selection of traditional Greek fare. As you would expect, lamb features heavily, but because this is Bali it comes with a premium price tag. Almost double that of the equivalent chicken dish. I was surprised (and just a little disappointed) not to see any Spanikopita or Dolmades on the menu which are usually my go to starters. We opted for the Spicy Feta Dip which proved a fine substitute. Being a massive feta fan (isn’t it just the best cheese ever?), I appreciated the unique flavour combination but it was a little too salty for The Hubs’ liking. The serving was substantial and way too much for us to finish without spoiling our appetite, especially when combined with the complimentary bread and oil. Try sharing between four.
Souvlaki is always a favourite and Nostimo Greek Grill Bali offers both wraps and platters. The Hubs and I always go for the platters. The Hubs is partial to the Chicken Souvlaki Platter (IDR750k). He has ordered it every single visit. The three skewers of perfectly seasoned chicken are always deliciously charred and oh-so-tender. Also a creature of habit, I always order the Soutzoukaki Platter (IDR850k). Nostimo’s signature lamb kofte balls are superb. Wrap bite size chunks in the light, fluffy pita and slather them in Tzatziki to enjoy them like I do. I can never get enough of the yoghurty goodness of Tzatziki and always steal The Hubs’ when mine is empty. The rosemary-flecked, hand-cut chips which accompany most meals are sensational. This is simple food done well that I could eat every day. Did I mention that you can wash your meal down with a glass of Australian Sauv Blanc for only IDR700k?

One of the things I think most of us love about traveling abroad is the exposure to different and exciting cuisine and the delicious flavors that go with that. Normally you tend to focus on the local cuisine delicacies and flavors but you make a great point that you can still enjoy fabulous food of a completely different nationality to the country you are visiting. In this case, enjoying Greek food in Bali may not be the first thing that comes to mind – but reading your account makes me sure want to give it a go!
