Preamble

This page is just about the most boring thing I have ever written. I spent ages trying to get it right and am crossing my fingers that I have covered all the bases, but I’m not a lawyer so there is a good chance I have slipped up somewhere. Don’t get me wrong, I understand the need for compliance all too well. I’m a risk manager by day which means I spend Monday to Friday neck-deep in compliance matters so the last thing I want to do in my time off is deal with more compliance issues for my blog. Yet here we are. I often tell people who ask me for compliance advice that it is far more important to respect the intent of the law than it is to simply comply with the letter of the law. There are a million legal loopholes that enable those with overpriced lawyers on retainer to shirk their obligations but that is not me. In my day job I preach ‘doing the right thing’ so it would be remiss of me to do anything less here. I’m guessing right about now that you are wishing you had clicked on one of my much more interesting blog posts instead of this page but if you have made it this far, you may as well stick with me a little longer.
