It occurred to me today that it’s been a while since I’ve done a Fresh Fashion Forum from Sydney. It may seem like I am on perpetual vacation but I can assure you that is not the case! I had planned on taking a bunch more outfit photos in Hawaii but I was unwell and really wasn’t up to it. I was in Melbourne for work today and if all goes to plan I will be on a plane home as this goes live. I’ve had this black leather coat for a while but I ALWAYS wear it with jeans and I was in a bit of a rut so I forced myself to change it up this week. Read on for all the details …
Black Leather Coat
I love this black leather coat. I got it custom-made in Bali about two years ago for $170 and I haven’t taken it off since, but I have almost religiously worn it exactly the same way. I always feel just a bit rock chick when I slip it on and it’s perfect for a night at the pub. But a change is as good as a holiday so I decided to see what else it might work with. I shopped up big last week in Hawaii and I had lots of lovely new things to try it with so I decided to pair the old with the new. I’m not an ‘outfit’ shopper. And by this I mean I don’t hit the shops with a view of buying a whole new complete outfit. When I’m shopping I tend to buy individual pieces that I love which I know will work well with items I already own. I think the danger in buying a complete outfit is that it becomes forever typecast. I’m a fan of black (can’t you tell?) so I knew that I would have no trouble incorporating all these new items with my existing wardrobe but I didn’t buy them with the intention of wearing them all together. That was just a happy accident. I love each of my new purchases. The simple black Zara T has an interesting neckline and ribbing that elevates it from the everyday while my black and silver MK bag complements the toughness of the black leather coat. My Furla sandals make a statement with ‘just the right thickness straps’ and a super practical block heel. I feel dainty stilettos would be overwhelmed by everything else going on here. Finally I decided to break up the black a little with some cute printed pants that are just the right length to show off the shoes. Minimal jewellery and my favourite Prada sunnies were the only other things needed. When pulling an outfit together I always think about the details and how each separate piece will work with each other. This particular outfit is very simple but each piece has been carefully considered. I always wonder about the thought process other women go through when dressing for the day. Am I alone in being a stickler for the detail?

I’m definitely more of a “piece by piece” shopper and I love finding new ways to put things together, it’s really easy to go with the same combos over and over! Yay for everydaystyle shots on Instagram, it motivates me to step away from the failsafes!!
Sydney Fashion Hunter says
Totally agree Beth! I’ll still wear it with jeans but will defo try some new ways ?

I was happy to see the close up of the pants. Otherwise I did think they were jeans, but lo and behold, they were lovely b&w checks!
I don’t shop or buy any clothes, etc. I usually just make whatever I like and then it goes into my wardrobe and discovers its own way.
Sydney Fashion Hunter says
Thanks Pao! I’m the same!

You are not alone, I too am a stickler for details! Sometimes I find that I take a substantial amount of time picking out my earrings, and wear my hair down and they don’t even show haha!
Thanks for hosting!
Sydney Fashion Hunter says
Hahaha Kelsey. I’m hearing you! I do take sore time with earrings when my hair is up though ?

Oh oh oh. I love this, Allison. I’d give anything for the weather to be chilly enough to pull out a leather coat right about now. Until it actually happens in Houston, I’ll be ogling yours. And that sounded completely wrong HAHAHA
Sydney Fashion Hunter says
Thanks Sheela! I’d swap you winter for summer anyway. Counting the days until November ?

You are absolutely right about the shoes! The visual weight of the block heel looks great with the outfit. Of course I fell in love with the scrappy, shiny patent leather- beautiful!

It all just seems to hard shopping for ‘outfits’! No one needs that pressure lol. Definitely a classic that can be worn for years!
Jess says
What a perfect fit! I have a collection of moto jackets as I dont really need a winter coat here in Charlotte. As always I love your jewelry, those gorgeous strappy shoes, and I love detail, especially on a top. I think that is what makes it interesting, detail or cut.
Nice look!

I LOVE this outfit! It’s exactly the kind of look I would go for (I’m a massive fan of black too). And that jacket is just gorgeous – I’d be wearing it all the time too. If only it was cold enough here at the moment (I’m so sick of the heat!).
