Let me start by saying that I am now a massive fan of Prada pumps but until fairly recently, I have always favoured Loubi’s over other high end brands. That all changed in April this year when I bought my first ever pair of Prada pumps and fell in love. And now I own five! This is how it happened …. an Accidental Love Story.
I just happened to be in the city lunching with my one of my besties (from here on in to be known as ‘The Enabler’) and we wandered into the Sydney Flagship Store in Westfield. It was lust at first sight when I saw the most perfect pair of almond toe black patent leather pumps. The heel height was perfect for the office at 8.5cms while still looking like a ‘real’ heel, the right amount of toe cleavage was peeking through and there was no pinching whatsoever. I simply couldn’t leave the store without them. Egged on by The Enabler I completed the purchase quick smart. If it was lust at first sight, it developed into true love after I wore them for the first few times. They are without a doubt THE MOST comfortable pair of pumps I have ever worn in my life. I can wear them all day at work and still not be hobbling home at 5pm. I wear them so often that only 4 months in the heels tips had completely worn down. So after Mr SFH slipped in the spares that came with them (love this feature on high end shoes!) I got to thinking that I may need to get my hands on a few more spares.
With this in mind I visited the Prada Westfield Sydney store during my lunch break on Monday just gone. I couldn’t see my exact shoes on display and began to panic that they may be sold out or worse … discontinued … Eeek! All seemed lost when an angel named Jodie appeared. Seeing my distress she offered to hunt around out the back for me for any pairs that they still had left as they were no longer for sale and all excess stock would be returned to Italy shortly. Like the absolute legend that she is she produced a nude pair that they were returning and very kindly gave me the spare heel tips from the box (#score). Hang on a second … these babies come in nude as well? I was told when I bought the black pair that they only came in the one colour in patent leather but clearly this was not the case! Unfortunately Jodie was unable to secure me the nudes which were not released in Australia but she offered to try and get me another pair of the black from the Melbourne store. Clearly this was an essential purchase given they were discontinued. Hell yes, let’s do it! With a very happy customer on her hands, Jodie also happened to mention a very special event being held over three days this weekend (Aug 20 – 23 2014). Prada Sydney’s very first custom made shoe event. I made an appointment without hesitation for the following Thursday lunchtime and left the store with some Candy perfume (my new fave!) and a galvanised determination to hunt down the nude almond toe pumps online, confident that Jodie would secure the black pair for me. I was giddy thinking about the possibilities I could create on Thursday. I’m no stranger to a custom made shoe having purchased from shoesofprey.com on four occasions but this was a whole new ball game. Custom made Prada’s. Very excited needless to say.

Decisions Decisions Decisions. I loved the 11cm round toe pumps but would they be too high for the office? The 8.5cm pointy toes were more sensible but I don’t usually do a point toe because I hate having my toes crushed. Could I wear these without pain? As I get older I am much less willing to sacrifice comfort for looks. These days I want it all. Stunning and comfy and that’s exactly what Prada delivers. Initial disappointment kicked in upon finding there was no baby blue patent leather in the selection. We shall call these ‘The Ones That Got Away’ (#TOTGA), for the moment at least, as this will be a hunt for another day. So I set about weighing up my other choices. And there was lots to chose from … Nine shoe styles, five heel heights, three sole colours and a dizzying array of choices for the uppers. All the basics were covered (blacks, nudes, whites) as you would expect. These were supplemented by a beautiful selection of pretty colours in leather, suede and silk. After much deliberation and another glass of champers, I ordered a teal silk pair of lovelies with a point toe, 8.5cm heel and a blue sole (No. 3). Did I mention because they are custom they also apply your initials on the sole? How cute! I was considering the hot pink patent as well but the thought of not eating for the rest of the week prevailed and I settled for one pair.
On Saturday I had a facial booked with ‘The Enabler” (which by the way was $19 with a living Social Voucher and one of the best facials I have ever had #bargain!) and I told her of my plight. How could I possibly justify getting another pair despite my lust for them after having already ordered three pairs this week? In true form she encouraged me to go for it, not that I needed much of a push! Thinking I might have left my run to late and in the dying shopping hours of Saturday afternoon I called my new BFF Jodie who assisted me to complete the order for the hot pink patent stunners (No. 4) over the phone.
September 2014 – Sadly when the nude and black pair arrived the heel height was wrong and they had to be returned. 🙁
October 2014 – One pair of my Made To Orders (MTO’s) have arrived!!! They are gorgeous! Pics below don’t do them justice 🙂
October 2014 –And now the other pair have have arrived 🙂 Tickled Pink (pun intended!) …
Until next time … Happy Hunting
